Photoshop: Adjust Facial Expressions

Image
Changing faces     Original Photo   In photoshop I used the liquify tool to change/edit this woman's face. To begin with, I changed her face by making it slimmer and her jawline more pronounced. I did a slight change in the eye area by making them closer together and making the left eye more open. I made her smile and lips bigger. I also mad her nose smaller and lower on her face. I think my changes were subtle yet effective. These techniques will help me in my final process by making my photos look professional and near perfect.

Photoshop: Background, Selections, and Blending

Image
Backgrounds    Removing the background, adding other pictures, and new backgrounds using the quick select and blending tools was easy, the most challenging part is navigating the app itself. Learning these tasks will aid me in my finished product by ensuring that all the backgrounds in my cover and double-page spread photos are professional and aesthetically pleasing.

Typography

Image
Battle of the Fonts I chose this font because it is Sophisticated but still modern. It portrays the late teens, and early twenties by having a flirty fair but still being bold. This font is similar to the first one in that it is sophisticated but still modern. This font caters to the older side of the audience since the text is chicer with its slim and slightly curved lettering. This is more playful and could be used in creative ways throughout the magazine. I chose it because it's interesting and fits the teen magazine/diary theme I'm going for.

Masthead Development

Masthead options Moody Mag  This is an option because for one it's my name and I'm very proud of it, it took a long time for me to become comfortable with it and I use all the time. It's also ironic and clever seeing as my target audience is young women from ages 16-22 and they are often described as "Moody". Femení It means Feminine is Catalan, the word is visually pleasing and it being a masthead shows that femininity doesn't always have to be weak, it can a strong title. Oh Girlll It is an endearing term used by young people when they are about to gossip. It can also be just a conversation starter. I want people to feel like they are talking to a friend when they read my magazine.

Photoshop: adding guides

Rule of thirds It is important to use the rule of thirds because it draws the viewer's attention. By having the photo slightly off-center, it adds to its depth and interest of it.

Double Page Spread Analysis

Image
Spread 1: Tiger Beat The picture of Cameron Dallas is large, takes up both pages and is behind all the text to bring attention to it. The text is on the right side of the page and is consolidated into one box, it also has the traditional drop cap at the start of the text. The quote is on the right side as well and is more significant than the rest of the text on the page and all the text is sanserif. A Masthead is in the top left corner and the baseline says Cameron's name. Also on the right is more pictures of Cameron and a plug "EXCLUSIVE" that will catch the reader's attention.  Spread 2: Teen Vogue This Teen Vogue spread is different because there are multiple images of Ariana Grande, as opposed to one picture that takes up the whole page. The text is split between both pages, with a lead before it begins. Around both pages, multiple small boxes of text pertain to Ariana Grande and all text is San serif. This double-page spread has a lipstick ad. There is no title...
